Why use vintage and thrift decor?

To me, the question is why not? Here are my top 5 reasons why:

  1. Older furniture is incredibly well-made and durable. It will stand up to heavy use in rental properties and stand out for its fine craftsmanship.

  2. Second-hand home goods are distinctive and often one-of-a-kind. They will save your place from looking like a bland greige spec house.

  3. You’ll save so much money! I will source or help you score deals from estate sales, thrift stores, flea markets and peer-to-peer online marketplaces. You can find great quality furniture and decor for a sliver of what they cost new.

  4. You’ll save time. Shopping for salvage imposes immediate limitations and shrinks the ocean of options in a good way. Instead of endless choice, you have edited choice, making it easier and faster to make decisions. It’s a far less overwhelming way to roll.

  5. The planet will thank you. The packaging, waste and shipping burdens of buying new is a heavy toll. There’s no styrofoam packaging, plastic film or mountain of cardboard to deal with when you buy vintage. After all, reuse is the ultimate form of recycling.

But will my place look too retro or shabby chic?
The short answer is, no, not unless you want it too. We’ll work together to make sure your space matches your desired style because second-hand goods hail from all eras and design schools.

We tend to classify mid-century modern decor as retro and the layered, textured look of global influences as bohemian style, which are both rich veins to mine in the vintage arena.

But you can also create traditional, colonial, Scandinavian, art deco, industrial and coastal schemes with thrifted furnishings. There is a whole world of existing furniture, decor and artwork out there waiting to be discovered and creatively repurposed in your short-term rental.
